Costa Teguise
Costa Teguise is one of the most attractive tourist destinations of Lanzarote, thanks to the availability of first class accommodation, services, beaches, green spaces and the care and planning with which architecture and the landscape have been harmoniously integrated.
It is named as a prestigious tourist destination and favoured by Spain's Royal family for their holidays. In addition Costa Teguise is the destination of choice for European political leaders who regularly hold summits here.
Costa Teguise is a fantastic holiday resort for guests of all ages. It is built on flat ground and is therefore a preferred choice for families. There are several adjoining golden sandy beaches, all of which are safe for bathing and swimming.
Las Cucharas is the largest of the beaches in Costa Teguise at 640 metres long. It is protected by reefs and is of fine toasted sand and calm waters. It is a favourite for wind surfers with tuition available for all levels. Windsurf equipment hire and repair is available locally. There are changing room facilities available with showers and toilets.
Playa Jabillo and Los Charcos both have fine white sand and quiet waters sheltered from the sea currents by breakwater. Playa Jabillo is an excellent location to snorkel or go diving as it is so accessible and has a wide variety of marine life on view. Playa Bastian is a family favourite with its fine sand and easy access. Each of these beaches has sun lounger and umbrella hire.
The Sea front promenade connects all of the beaches of Costa Teguise and has a selection of cafes, bars and shops along its length. There is a cycle track along here too with bike hire available.
During different times of year there may be varied activities along the Costa Teguise coast, with sporting events such as fun runs and windsurf competitions including the PWA Grand Slam. Sand sculptures and salt pictures are regularly exhibited along the beach path.
In the centre of the resort is situated the old square of Pueblo Marinero. There are three connecting pedestrian squares where you will find some great bars, shops and restaurants. Typical of the diversity in Costa Teguise you will find here a couple of typical Canarian tapas bars, a German pastry shop and café, an excellent Swiss restaurant, an Irish live music bar, Carvery, cocktail bar and grill to name a few.
Pueblo Marinero is also the venue for the Friday night local craft market of Costa Teguise. It is held between 6pm and 10pm and has a lively mix of stalls.
The square connects between the two main roads of Costa Teguise and lining both roads is a variety of restaurants and cafes. In general eating out is very affordable and of good quality. Whilst there are a variety of international menus available there is still a great selection of good local restaurants offering local Lanzarote specialities.
Costa Teguise offers a number of lively bars and night clubs all in close proximity to the town centre. Within the centre there is a bowling alley and several amusement centres.
Along the main streets and coastal paths there are also a variety of shops to provide adequate 'retail therapy'. Designer clothing stores are generally found to offer a discount of around 20% off UK prices and electronic goods may be found to be cheaper.
There’s a good selection of surf sport shops and plenty of local gift shops with unusual bits and pieces.
Highly recommended in Costa Teguise is the Thalasso centre and spa at the hotel Beatriz which is open to non residents of the hotel with a small entrance charge for towel hire. Here you can relax and soak in the hot sea water pools and feel the toning effects from stimulating water jets. There is also a steam room suite with sauna, steam and plunge pool.
Costa Teguise is also home to Lanzarote's only golf course at present. The 18 hole international standard golf course was designed by John Harris in 1978 and is a marvel not only for its challenging course but also for year round excellent conditions. There is also a very nice café and restaurant overlooking the green.
For those who like to explore on foot, Canary trekking, based in Costa Teguise offers visitors several guided tours in different natural protected areas of Lanzarote. Also firmly on the list of must do's for families is the renowned water park. Agua parque is always adding to its slides and rides to make it a great fun day out for all ages. Open 10am till 6pm.
